A Brush With Kindness Qualifications
The successful ABWK applicant must:
- Own their own home;
- Be the primary resident in their home;
- Hold current homeowner's insurance;
- Have income at or below the 65th percentile of AMI for the city of Chicago (see table below)
- Describe home conditions that require repair;
- Have an inability to pay for repairs as the result of age, disability, or lack of funds;
- Continue to own and live in the home for 3 years after the repairs are made;
- Contribute "sweat equity" volunteer hours to support the repair project.
Our current pilot program is focusing on homes in the 34th ward on Chicago's South Side. Applicants from other areas of Chicago may apply to the program and may be approved as funding and construction scheduling allows. Qualified applicants may not be approved for the program if there is not enough funding.
